The fabulous Cartmel Racecourse near Grange-over-Sands was home to the annual Tourism Awards this past Wednesday, hosted by the team here at Cumbria Tourism.
The evening was a great success with businesses from across the county uniting to celebrate another great year for the Lake District and Cumbria!
Many examples of excellence in Cumbria’s tourism industry were shown throughout the various categories, which included ‘B&B of the Year’, ‘Dining Experience of the Year’ and the new ‘Wedding Venue of the Year’ category.
To the delight of those in attendance, popular North East funny man Justin Moorhouse was on-hand to announce the winners. A few unfortunate members of the audience fell victim to his quick witted jibes in the process!
The event also saw the presentation of the 2016 Bernard Gooch ‘Tourism Personality of the Year’ award, which was won by Windermere Lake Cruises Managing Director, Nigel Wilkinson, for his outstanding contribution to tourism in Cumbria.
We are proud to announce that many of the winners will go on to represent the county at the Visit England Awards for Excellence in 2017.
The Lake District really is a quality visitor destination (not that we are at all bias) and the incredibly high standards of service upheld in the county was reflected in the level of competition on show at the awards evening.
Ultimately, the awards are a fantastic opportunity for visitors to learn about the very best accommodation, attractions and food & drink that Cumbria has to offer, so you can swot up and plan your trip down to a tee!
