On Tuesday 23rd August, the Cumbria Tourism team went out on Windermere on the amazing paddle-boards with Windermere Canoe & Kayak!

We had the perfect evening for it. Blue sky, 23 degree heat and the most incrediblly still water. Below are 5 reasons why this must be added to your to-do list…

1.) To try something new!

It is certainly something we had not done before and it is a relatively new experience. It is surprisingly easy to find your feet when out on the water. The usual water sport activities like kayaking, canoeing and sailing are all available to hire, but we would definitely recommend getting out on the paddle boards!

2) Because you will fall in!

It is inevitable that you will eventually fall in (unless you have the balance of an olympic gymnast!).  If you’re brave enough to go without the wet suit the water isn’t actually that bad. Only the first time really takes your breath away! As a group to see your friends falling in one by one really makes for some fantastic memories and a hilarious experience.

3) For the memories…

Take a group of friends, your loved one or even as a team building day, it makes for a splendid day out! After falling in numerous times and having plenty of banter as we paddled across Windermere, we realised just how much fun we were all having! It really is a must do with friends!

4) To chill out…

There doesn’t have to be a group of you, you can easily do it on your own. Going across the lake an a calm day, as the sun begins to set is an incredibly calming experience and can really help you to get away from the bustling streets of Bowness and take some time to appreciate how beautiful Cumbria actually is…

5) To get better!

It was our first time but it certainly won’t be the last time we go paddle boarding! Falling in just makes you want to get back up on the board and stay on for longer. The sense of accomplishment when you’re pulling 180 degree turns and zooming off in any direction you please is majestic. Although it might take us a few more attempts before we reach the level of our instructor who was certainly very skilled at the sport! Windermere Canoe & Kayak run paddle-boarding classes every Thursday. Beginners between 5.30pm to 6.30pm and then intermediates from 6.30pm to 7.30pm!
