As Charlie will tell you, it’s not every day you get invited to a chocolate factory.
Last Wednesday, a few lucky members of the Cumbria Tourism team got to experience first-hand the delights of the Children’s Chocolate Workshop at the Cocoa Bean; which opened its doors just last month in the beautiful village of Hawkshead.
After a scenic drive from Staveley, the team (reminiscent of a group of four year olds on their first school trip), donned the provided purple aprons and hair nets, rolled back the years and got hands on with the chocolate workshop. Which would normally be attended by actual children, as opposed to overgrown ones!
After being instructed to razzle and dazzle our chocolatey treats with various sauces and sweets, including marshmallows and jelly beans, we partook in a little song and dance while the chocolate set in the freezer. To avoid any tantrums, the Cocoa Bean’s own Oompa-Loompa’s were kind enough to let us take our new works of art home with us!
In fact, we had just as much fun eating the chocolate as we did making it… Our jeans may now feel tighter, but we are all agreed it was worth it!
The Cocoa Bean is a welcome new attraction to Hawkshead; as well as the chocolate factory, there is an on-site shop selling a delightful array of chocolate and sweets. There is also a yet-to-be-named purple cow outside, just to round things off!
For the adult chocoholics out there who want to act their age, never fear, Andrew Wilson from the Cocoa Bean has confirmed that a Prosecco and chocolate evening is in the works!
Whether you’re a Cumbrian family or visiting the Lake District on holiday, we recommend a little trip to Hawkshead. If your children have half as much fun as the Cumbria Tourism team did then they’re in for a great day, and great chocolate 😀
