Tour of Britain
Cumbria welcomed the Aviva Tour of Britain in to the county on Tuesday where the race started from the Market town Cockermouth, then they travel up the Coast before reaching there last stop in Cumbria, Carlisle before they headed over the border in to Scotland for the finish in Kelso.
With the Cockermouth streets lined with thousands of people in anticipation of seeing many of the top rides including Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Mark Renshaw & Andre Greipel starting stage 3.
The peloton set off with a great cheer, but someone was missing! Sir Bradley was having a mechanical problem, so had to wait for the team car before re-joining the peloton. The first of the two prints in Cumbria were one by Aidis Kruopis from SKT.
Stage 3 saw Viviani (Sky) take his second stage win after winning the opening stage of this years Tour of Britain.
Stage 5 arrived in the County after travelling along Hadrian’s Wall for most of the race, before taking in Ullswater and Penrith. This stage was a Mountain finish with the famous Hartside fell its destination after an 8km climb.
The summit finish saw Wouter Poels (Sky) take the stage win here, just in front of Edvald Bosson Hagen who will be in Yellow for the start of Stage 6.
